How to Get Involved

We all take pride in our work, and CUPE 387 takes pride in helping New Westminster city workers have the best working conditions, wages and benefits possible. We do that with the help of the membership. We all have busy lives, which makes it challenging for local unions to engage members. Here’s how you can get more involved with the local. Help us help you.

Attend monthly membership meetings

The monthly general meetings review executive business, the local’s finances, updates on campaigns and initiatives in workplaces, and more. The meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of the month at 5:00 p.m. at the Centennial Community Centre.

Become a steward

Stewards are often the first contact members have with the union when seeking information or for any concerns in the work place. The local provides regular training to keep you informed and educated on how to deal with members and management.

Join a committee

Committees get the work done. Members can join executive on a committee by contacting the Full-Time Officer, Nancy Jickels.

Run for an executive position

You can help shape this local to be the best it can be for its members.

Vote in the elections

Have your say in who runs this local. Attend the Annual General Meeting in March and vote for the people you want to represent you in the coming year.

it is the only means.”
